Bus Driver Awareness Activation

Head down to Metrocentre this weekend and you may be able to move your search for a new career into top gear.

The transport team from Realise Training Group will be in the centre outside Primark throughout Saturday offering the chance for people to find out more information about how to train for a career as a bus driver.

Realise Transport is seeking to create more than 100 new bus drivers for the North East over the next 12 months through its Route to Success programme to help safeguard vital bus services.

More than 300 people will take part in the training in total, of which 120 will be trained by Realise to secure their Passenger Carrying Vehicle licence. The remaining participants will be supported to secure interviews with bus operators across the North East.

The training is fully funded by the devolved Adult Skills Programme funding of the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and is therefore free of charge to residents of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, County Durham, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland who are aged 19 and over and hold a standard UK car driving licence.

Anyone completing the Route to Success course could secure a PCV licence within six weeks of starting the programme.
